An Update on the Sanctuary Renovation

News

With the damaged ceiling of the sanctuary now removed, renovation works will begin in January.

Friends in Christ,

As you are aware, several months ago a fault was discovered in the ceiling of our church sanctuary. Engineers were consulted, and it was determined that the ceiling needed to be removed and a new ceiling structure installed. In December, the work to remove the old ceiling was completed.

At present, the engineers and design team are creating plans for the installation of the new ceiling. We expect that the installation work will begin by the end of January, and will last several months. At present, no fixed date has been set for the return of our two congregations to the sanctuary. Thus for the next months, we expect to continue to gather for worship in the current space on the first floor.

We are grateful to the UMC of Austria, which is overseeing the project and funding the majority of the renovation work. A portion of the cost of some of the cosmetic improvements to the sanctuary may be borne by our two congregations. These details will be discussed by the Joint Board and our Church Councils, and members will be informed. Marilyn Brandl and Franz Haslinger will join me in representing ESUMC as the renovation plans take shape in the coming weeks.

On behalf of our Church Council, I thank you for your understanding, support, and patience, as we continue our mission of loving and serving God and others.

Yours in Christ, Pastor John
